Description:
The Weighbridge to Town Centre Surface Water Link and the Fort Regent Cavern Storm Water Storage Tank (herein referred to as the Cavern) were designed to alleviate overflowing of the town-s sewerage system during periods of high rainfall. The storage tank provides the facility for diluted effluent to be retained rather than being discharged directly to sea. The storage capacity is approximately 25,000m3.

Once a period of heavy rainfall has come to an end the retained effluent can then be pumped from the Cavern back into the main sewerage system for onward pumping to the Bellozanne STW for treatment.

The MCC panel and lighting distribution boards for the Cavern are located in the control room adjacent to the roadway entrance and were replaced in 2021. However, the Cavern main ventilation fan system (except fan motor) consists of the originally installed equipment, when the site was put into service circa 1998. It has now come to the end of its asset life and therefore needs to be replaced in its entirety. The main purpose of the Works shall be to replace the main ventilation fan system, excluding the power and control cables to the MCC.

Site work can only take place once the Cavern has been taken out of service and cleaned down by I&E Pumping Station team who are the asset owners of the Cavern.
